Washington Ebike Rebates

Big news for Washington residents! The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has officially launched WE-bike, an instant rebate program that helps people across the state save money on e-bikes and cycling equipment.

The application will open at 7 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, and close at noon on Wednesday, April 23. With more than $4 million in funding available, qualifying applicants can receive up to $1,200 off select new e-bikes instantly at checkout.

Read on for all the key details, including rebate amounts, who qualifies, how to apply, and which VTUVIA e-bikes are eligible.

1. Program Timeline

  • Application Opens: Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 7:00 AM (PDT)

  • Application Closes: Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at noon — or earlier if funds are used up

  • Where to Apply: A dedicated online application website (hosted by WSDOT in partnership with APTIM)

  • Total Available Funding: Over $4 million

  • Pro Tip: Apply early — rebates are first come, first served!

2. Rebate Amounts & Eligibility

The Washington State e-bike rebate program offers two levels of subsidies:

💸 $1,200 Instant Rebate

  • For residents whose household income is below 80% of the median income in their county

  • Income verification required

  • Can be used instantly at checkout at approved retailers

💸 $300 Instant Rebate

  • Available to all Washington State residents, regardless of income

  • No income verification required

Each individual can receive one rebate. Rebates are applied instantly at the time of purchase through participating retailers.

3. How to Apply for the Rebate?

WSDOT is partnering with APTIM to develop an online application system. The expected steps are as follows:

  1. Register an Account: Visit the WSDOT e-bike rebate page (official website).

  2. Submit an Application: Fill out personal details through a dedicated application website.

  3. Approval Process: The application will be reviewed, and approved applicants will receive a rebate voucher.

  4. Purchase an E-Bike: Use the voucher at approved retailers within Washington State to buy an eligible e-bike.

4. Who Can Apply?

  • Washington residents aged 16 or older

  • One rebate per household

  • Must provide proof of residency, contact info, and demographic details

5. Which E-Bikes Qualify for the Rebate?

  • bike helmets,
  • bike lights,
  • bike locks

There are three classes of e-bike: Classes 1, 2 and 3. Washington State defines e-bikes and their classes based on their style of motor and their maximum speed(RCW:46.04.169)

⚠️ E-bikes NOT eligible for the rebate:

  • Any e-bikes, e-trikes, or adaptive bikes are not eligible for these classes(RCW:46.04.169)

  • E-mountain bikes

Rebates can only be used at approved bike shops across Washington, and must be used within 45 days of receiving the voucher — or by June 30, 2025, whichever comes first.
